About

Our studio is open for glass-enthusiasts either for courses or just for hiring a working place.

We offer courses in more level in the field of stained glass, and fused glass. You can improve your practical skills while getting knowledge of curiosities of the world of glass. Besides that we touch the different glass processing techniques, the materials, tools and machines needed for these, and where to order these from. So you will be able to work independantly, and become open-minded in this topic.

Available courses:

Leaded glass basic
Course in Brief:

- learn, how to cut glass, practice with float (window) glass
- making a small, simple piece from float glass
- making a middle size – 30*30cm approximately - stained glass panel from color glass

There is no especially theoretical block, so you immediately get the glass cutter in your hands. Otherwise, while working, we speak a lot about the different glass types, how to plan a glass panel, what are the limits of sizes, how to strenghten a panel, how to build it in a window or door, how to held a piece of glass, what to do not to cut yourself, how to transport a glass panel, how to store glass sheets, etc.

Details:

First you learn how to cut glass. You can practice how to cut straight and curved lines. You cut wave lines, convex and concave shapes, circles.

As soon as cutting gets perfect, you make a small stained glass piece. The reason for this is to see how the glass pieces join together, what accuracy is needed both with cutting and grinding. You’ll feel how to cut and bend lead came. At the end of this stage you try soldering too. As the next step you make a stained glass panel from colour glass. First of all you have to draw a pattern. We give all help you need to do this. If you think you are unable to find out a pattern, do not worry. Try to find a photo or drawing on the internet you like. Use this as a basis. Draw your plan preferably in 1:1 to see if there are too small pieces, see if there are too thick lead lines compared to the size of glass pieces. You can do it at home, but you can come in the studio if you prefer company.

We insist on self made plans because it helps you to get tuned to work. With the experience you just got you can think along cutting and leading lines. It helps you to be able to adapt a picture from anywhere to a leaded glass pattern. You adjust your imagination to the limits of the technique. It helps you to plan, what glass you want to use. Either transparent, or opal, what color, etc. After you are ready with the plan, you can make your panel with our constant help in your schedule. No matter if you are quick or slow, you stay in our studio until you’re ready. All we ask is to stay at least 3 hours by session, and do not (or just exceptionally) wait more than one week between two sessions.

Price: 45.000 HUF or 150 EUR

Leaded glass advanced
You prepare one max. 0,25m2 area stained glass panel. This is for example a square panel 50*50cm, or a 56cm dia circle panel . You can decide what shape you make. We prefer circle or elliptical shape, just because you can get used to it. On the other hand, if you have a window or furniture door to install a stained glass panel into, that’s also possible.

The larger the panel is, the more accuracy you need. Small  inaccuracies add up when you get to the end of the work. If your panel is to fit into a frame you need it to be exactly the size of the frame. So building a large panel teaches you to do exact and attentive job.

You can also learn how not to let pieces move and slide while you work. You need to think all over the work in advance to decide where to begin building, and what is gonna be the sequence. We’ll give you special glass pieces, and you can build them into your panel. Some of these have historical importance, while others have „only” aesthetically significant. They all break the „monotony” of flat glass if we can speak about monotony in the case of stained glass at all.

While you work, we speak about the size limits of leaded glass panels  and what to do to make panels lasting for hundreds of years :-).

When you book this course you’ll be asked to visit our studio for a short session, when we discuss what you want to do, what special pieces you need to build and we choose glass for your project. So try to think about your design in advance. After this session you can draw your plan either at home or in our studio. You do not need to draw your pattern in real size. We adapt your drawing to a stained glass designer software and then you just print the design 1:1.

After you are ready with the design, you can make your panel with our constant help in your schedule. No matter if you are quick or slow, you stay in our studio until you’re ready. All we ask is to stay at least 3 hours by session, and do not (or just exceptionally) wait more than one week between two sessions.

Copper-foil (tiffany glass) basic

- making a small, simple piece from float glass
- making a middle size – 30*35cm approximately - stained glass panel from color glass

You’ll see how foil glass pieces, what are the difficulties. At the end of this stage you try soldering too.

As the next step you make a stained glass panel from colour glass. It can be a so-called sun-catcher or a clock or a panel into a wood box, etc. First of all you have to draw a pattern. Copper foil advanced (tiffany lamp making)
Program in brief:

-making a small size four sided lamp
-making  a spherical  lamp

If you want to gather in depth knowldge of the copper-foil technique, if you want to be able to prepare three dimensional objects, than this course is just for you. You need to be through our Copper-foil basic course to attend here.

Details:
First of all you make a simple, four sided lamp with flat sides. As you already learned how to make a flat panel, you’ll be familiar with this. The point of this stage is to teach you to be preciseness. All sides have to be exactly the same size, all edges have to be line u pin order to get a beautiful  outcome. As you assemble the four sides of the lamp, you get experience of three dimensional object, how to transform a flat panel to a three dimensonal shape. You can work with your pattern or you can choose one from ours.

When you are ready with this, the next step comes. We know many lampshades in different shapes. There are sphericals, bells, cylindricals, yurt-shapes, etc. If you do not work with a ready made pattern when making a spherical shade, than you will be able to make pattern for any shape. So, we won’t use a ready made pattern J. No matter, if you  have an idea of an organic or a geometrical pattern,  we can make them either.
Besides the physical shade you make we learn how to use the GlassEye sofware lamp wizard module. With the help of this you can easily design a geometrical pattern.

As there is no ready made pattern, you should think about the design you like. Is it a „random”, organic, or is it a geometrical? Maybe the mixture of the two? Good to know, that geometrical designs require high accuracy and precision in cutting, grinding, and foiling. If you are not like this, it’s better to choose an organic design. We discuss these questions in the first part of the course.
We don’t prepare a big size flat panel, we’ll talk about it, and discuss  what are the limits of sizes, how to reinforce a panel, how to build it in a window or door, how to held a piece of glass, what to do not to cut yourself, how to transport a glass panel, how to store glass sheets, etc.

You can make your panel with our constant help in your schedule. No matter if you are quick or slow, you stay in our studio until you’re ready. All we ask is to stay at least 3 hours by session, and do not (or just exceptionally) wait more than one week between two sessions.

Price: 98.000 HUF or 325 EUR. Price of bronze lamp bases are not included! We can help you to where to buy these from.
